Gilles Matte {Caricature Wood Carver}

Entirely self-educated, I started carving in 2004, inspired by books and magazines. As soon as I discovered caricature carving, I knew this was what I wanted to do. I thought it was fun !

 

I had the opportunity to attend seminars with renowned members of The Caricature Carving Association (USA) : Pete Leclair, PJ Driscoll, Steve Prescott, Don Mertz, Chris Hammack and Rich Wetherbee.

 

I have won several awards in Canadian competitions as well as the most important caricature carving competition around the world: "The Caricature Carving Association Contest".

 

My little characters have been sold to many collectors around the globe : Alaska, USA, Ontario, Canada, United Kingdom, Europe and Asia.

 

I almost exclusively use knives and gouges to carve and paint my carvings with acrylic washes. Every carving is unique, hand-made and signed.
